You may have to be in the mood for it, but when you are, fudge can be such a delectable dessert treat. Its velvety texture, rich flavor, and creamy sweetness make it irresistible for chocolate lovers. We pride ourselves on making the best cookies and cookie gift packs in Sydney at Uptown Chunk. But, sometimes, we enjoy experimenting with fudge recipes and even topping our cookies with a swirl of fudge.

The origins of fudge are shrouded in delicious mystery, with multiple tales claiming to unveil its true inception. One popular legend traces fudge’s roots back to the late 19th century in America, where it is said to have been accidentally created during a botched batch of caramel. According to this story, a batch of caramel candy was overcooked, resulting in a grainy texture. However, instead of being discarded, the inventive cook salvaged the confection by adding additional ingredients such as milk and butter, thereby giving birth to the first iteration of fudge.

Another theory suggests that fudge has British origins, with early recipes also dating back to the late 19th century. These recipes typically consisted of sugar, butter, and milk, cooked to a precise temperature to achieve the desired consistency. Regardless of its exact origins, fudge quickly gained popularity, spreading across both sides of the Atlantic and captivating the taste buds of people everywhere.

Our fudge recipe is extremely quick and easy, and of course you can customise it with pretty much any mix-in or topping you fancy. See recipe below. With few ingredients needed, you can whip this up in no time, top it with sprinkles, icing sugar or crushed Malteasers and impress your guests.

Easy, Peasy Fudge

3 cups of dark chocolate chips

1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk

1/4 cup butter

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine chocolate, condensed milk and butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly and reduce heat to medium low after most of the chocolate is melted. Stir until completely combined and melted and remove from heat. Stir in the salt and vanilla. Pour into a pan prepared with a touch of baking spray or lined with parchment paper and let cool a couple hours.

You can add chopped nuts of your preference before pouring into the pan, if desired. Or, try adding a teaspoon of mint extract and topping with crushed mint candy bits on top. Of course, adding almonds and gently folding in marshmallows is a great way to make your own rocky road as well (and don’t forget to decorate the serving platter with marshmallows).

Hope you enjoy! Always remember to make your day a little sweeter.
